iDM South Tyrol
20 years of the South Tyrol brand
client:
To mark the 20th anniversary of the South Tyrol brand, we had the privilege of implementinga particularly multifaceted project for iDM South Tyrol: an emotional brand video that tells thestory of the brand's development over two decades – and, above all, its journey from atourism brand to a holistic regional brand.
briefing:
The content framework – explaining complex issues in simple termsThe briefing called for an animated explanatory video that would convey the following topicsin a way that was both understandable and emotional:
-
Origin: a brief look at the history of the South Tyrol brand
-
Arrival: the transformation into a regional brand and the many initiatives of recent years
-
Future: where the brand is heading – brand architecture, ecosystem, expansions
The central activities of IDM South Tyrol were to be made visible: new brand stories, sustainability initiatives, new campaigns, the brand portal, collaborations, innovations, expansion into new sectors and much more. The result is a hybrid animated film, produced in three language versions (DE, IT, EN) and optimised for flexible use at various touch points: from presentations and stakeholder events to newsletters, social media and websites.

implementation
Our production approach – classic animation meets smart AI workflows
For this project, we chose a completely hybrid production method – a combination ofestablished motion design methods and modern AI-supported workflows, which allowed usto work in a stylistically bold yet highly efficient manner.

The result – a timeless, emotional brand video
The finished film conveys the 20-year development of the South Tyrol brand in a clear, easy-to-understand and visually distinctive way.It shows the brand's journey – from its roots in tourism to becoming a comprehensiveregional brand – and presents the initiatives and visions for the future that characteriseSouth Tyrol as an innovative, sustainable and connected location.
Thanks to the deliberate interplay of classic animation and AI-supported image animation, the result is a film that combines elegant storytelling with modern production value – withoutever overshadowing the brand's visual world.
Making of:
1. Script & storytelling
Together with IDM South Tyrol, we developed a script that condenses fact-rich content in adramatic way and concisely explains the complex developments of recent years. It was important to us to strike a tone that conveys knowledge, but also conveys pride, optimism for the future and a sense of connection.

2. Look development & style frames –
the client's visual world at the centre
One of the client's key wishes was that the existing visual world – developed over manyyears through campaigns, shoots and brand stories – should be clearly at the centre. Our graphic elements and animations were to support, frame and organically expand theseimages, but never overlay or distract from them.
This resulted in our design approach:
-
visual restraint,
-
reduced forms,
-
warm, natural colours,
-
clear typography (Südtirol Next, Source Sans).

In order to give the existing photography more dynamism, depth and atmosphere withoutdistorting its character, we made targeted use of AI-based tools: This allowed us to elegantly‘animate’ still images – with gentle movement, depth effects or atmospheric transitions.
The result is a visual style that respects the brand's visual language while creating amodern, high-quality motion design experience.

3. Hybrid motion design
The film consists of a mix of:
-
classic vector and 2D animation,
-
animated illustrations,
-
carefully selected real images,
-
AI-animated still images, which we transformed into fluid, organic movements usingmodern models.
This combination allowed us to give the client's images maximum presence – complementedby animation layers that explain, connect and condense without ever competing.

conclusion
This project shows how powerful a hybrid production method can be: the existing imageryremains the hero, while animation and AI subtly add new levels of atmosphere andcomprehensibility.A brand video that combines information, emotion and visual innovation – andcommunicates pride in 20 years of the South Tyrol brand in a contemporary way.
